Recently I was listening to Trish Blackwell’s “From the Inside Out” Podcast and I was inspired to take on a new challenge. I’ll call it a resolution although I’m not a fan of them. Trish spoke of a Ted Talk presented by Matt Cutts of Google titled “Try something new for 30 days”.
I am going to take on this challenge for each month of the year in 2013. Each month I’m going to pick something new that I haven’t done yet that I’ve been wanting to do. At the end of the month I will either continue or stop the challenge as I take on the next challenge for the month. 30 days is more than enough time to make something a habit or to also fully know if it is something you prefer not to do. My goal is to remain committed to the challenge even in instances where things aren’t going as planned. I know in many cases, especially when it comes to fitness and nutrition based challenges, it takes time to adjust and it is important to stick with it.
For the month of January I’m going to be working on preparing for a half marathon. I’ve watched my wife compete in several events now, as well as work with a few fitness oriented individuals, where the inspiration is just over the top. This challenge is definitely over and above longer than 30 days, however the challenge is to make running a habit so that I can continue to work towards the completion of that goal. I’ll post regularly on the challenges I choose and the progress.
